The boundary as denned by the Treaty of 1783, neither party at any time attempted to get away from : Scrap of paper as it was, it was a contract, and therefore sacred and binding. When it was found that the words employed were not sufficiently definite to make clear the precise boundary intended, there was still no threat of war, much less, of forcible entry.
